Axel Garay

Intercessions by Axel Garay is a photo-media and audiovisual installation that explores whether the heart can stay wild within an increasingly simulated and algorithmically led world. This immersive exhibition brings together a suite of new video works and a series of cameraless cyanotype photographs accompanied by an original soundscape by cellist Thomas Veitch.

Together these interwoven forms expand on and critique the ‘immersive arts’ and consider how the ‘algorithmic age’ is affecting our ability to immerse ourselves with our materials, our world, art, our Gods and ourselves.

The works in this exhibition form a part of Garay’s studio-based PhD at the RMIT School of Art and provide an opportunity for him to actively engage with audiences and present his practice research in the public realm.
